Hike Up the Kennesaw Mountain
We had a great hike the Kennesaw Mountain with the pack. Prior of starting the hike we saw a documentary about the civil war and the battle of the Kennesaw Mountain. We revised the safety rules to ensure everyone will have a fun climb On our climb up we saw some wild life such as deers. Finally on top of the Mountain! And as a reward we had a beautiful view of the city. We ended the Hike with a picnic followed with some fun games together! |
July 12 Fishing Trip and Hatchery Tour Landed Some Big Fun
Last Saturday, 11 of our pack members enjoyed a trip to the Buford Trout Hatchery. The scouts fished for for bluegill bream and catfish in the family pond competing in an informal tournament to see who could catch the most fish. Here are the tournament results:
After some more casual fishing (all catch and release), we learned about fishing regulations in Georgia. Next everyone enjoyed a picnic lunch by the fishing pond with their family members. In the afternoon, we were given a tour of the hatchery by Pat Markey, the hatchery manager. We learned that the hatchery used to raise the trout from birth, it now raises them from 4 inches to 10 inches then releases them into the Chattahoochee River. All together the hatchery raises and releases about 450,000 trout a year. While not everyone caught a fish, by the end of the day, the scouts that participated all landed their fishing belt loop. |
June 14 Rocket Launch was a blast!
Thanks to all the Scouts that made it out to launch some rockets with SoAR Southern Area Rocketry. A special thanks goes out to William Bercini and Jorge Blanco from SoAR who were nice enough to give the Scouts a few tips on rocketry and rocketry safety. The weather was sunny and the wind was calm. For the most part we avoided the trees (sorry John!) and mud puddles. I think everyone had a great time. For more info on joining SoAR or attending upcoming launches visit soarrocketry.org |
Summer Activities!
We have some exciting activities planned for the boys this summer. We understand that summer is a busy time for families and these activities (as always) are optional. However, any boy that attends either one activity each month or three total will earn the National Summertime Activity Award. Here is our summer schedule and the leader for each event: June 1-5: Twilight camp (I think all agree it was fantastic with a thunderous ending!) June 14 : Model Rocket Launch - Sorry if you missed it. We had a blast! :) -Bret Williams July 12 : Fish Hatchery Tour and Fishing – Todd Williams July 27 : Hike up Kennesaw Mountain – John Hannah Aug 9 : Roswell North Elementary Clean-up – John Hannah Aug TBD : Bike ride – Jan Lattunen Aug 28 : Pack Meeting – Craig Ficik Some events are still being planned and subject to change. We will send out an invite for each event separately with more details (time, location, cost, carpooling, what to bring, etc.) as we get closer to each one. If you accept the invite (1 acceptance per family is fine) we will add you to communication list for that event in case there are any changes to the plan. |
May Pack Meeting
Congrats to all who moved up to the next level of their cub scout experience. The Cub-O-Matic was a little buggy but worked eventually for everyone, Version 2.0 will be better. Many thanks to the Webelos 2 for helping lead the moving up ceremony, great job! |
Blue & Gold
Blue & Gold was a big success my thanks to all who helped make it come together. Congratulations, to all the boys who advanced in rank and moved onto the next phase of their scouting career, Boy Scouts. |
